Best All Inclusive Resorts In The Maldives One&Only Reethi Rah Review

2018-04-06 0 comments ali

Plenty of sun, torquoise waters, beaches with powder-soft white sands, and all-round gorgeous views is a somewhat flattering, but matter-of-factly accurate description of the Maldives archipelago.

Added to that, this Indian ocean idyll has some of the world’s best holiday resorts. What’s not to like about the Maldives?

Not that I am on a quest to find out, but besides the occasional negative political event, there isn’t an awful lot not to like about this collection of islands and atolls.

The debate rages, however, about which is the best all inclusive holiday resort in the Maldives.

Looking at all that’s on offer at the resorts that dot this part of the wide expanse of nothingness that’s the Indian ocean, the debate seems a fool’s errand.

The resorts are mostly world-class.

We, thus, aren’t going to do any comparison-type review. Rather, we choose to review each of the resorts on their own.

And today we are at the One&Only Reethi Rah Beach Resort.

Why The One&Only Reethi Rah Is One Of The Best All Inclusive Resorts In The Maldives

The crew at the One&Only Reethi Rah Beach Resort like to refer to their tropical castaway as a piece of paradise. Reethi Rah incidentally means ‘beautiful island’ in the local Delivhi language.

Well, even though blowing your own horn isn’t uncommon in this industry, that paradise description isn’t far off the mark.

The Reethi Rah Island is beautiful in every sense.

People who have had the privilege of sampling the island’s world class hospitality have described it variously, but just as glowingly. Superlatives like ‘heaven on earth’, ‘the most beautiful island on earth’, and other such flowery descriptions have been used.

To be honest, even as a professional reviewer, it is hard to stay objective once you have experienced the hospitality at the One&Only Reethi Rah Beach resort.

But enough of that, let’s find out all there is about this resort.

The One&Only Reethi Rah beach holiday resort is all-inclusive, with everything for everyone. Well, almost anyway.

In the family-size overwater villas, secluded beaches, world class restaurants, spa, tennis court, hair salons, shops, climbing wall, and water sports facilities, there is enough to keep honeymooners, family vacationers, and thrill seekers alike adequately occupied.

Where Is The Reethi Rah Resort?

First, let’s talk about the Maldives itself.

The Maldives is a collection of 26 atolls located south of India and Sri Lanka and East of the horn of Africa in the wide expanse of the Indian ocean.

The Maldives has the distinctions of being the world’s most dispersed country and, perhaps worryingly, the lowest country in the world, sitting just 2.8 metres above sea level.

The islands sit on a very rich and diverse marine ecosystem, which includes coral reefs with 187 coral species, and many species of fish, dolphins, whale, sea turtle, and other marine life.

Historically, the islands’ economy was heavily dependant on the fishing industry. But in the 1970s the government sought to diversify the economy with a shift towards the tourism. Tourism income now accounts for over 60 percent of the country’s forex inflows.

Male is the largest island and also the country’s administrative center.

The Reethi Rah itself is a private island that is 40 minutes from Male by boat.

The resort occupies the entire expanse of the island, forming a small community with 128 overwater and beachfront villas, 12 of the best beaches in the Maldives, and a palm tree forest that’s criss-crossed by sandy roads.

Once you arrive at the resort you are met by cheerful staff, who will welcome you with their signature, right hand-over-the-heart greeting.

The resort even has its own time zone, one hour behind Male time, so you can get the best out of daytime hours.

Who Should go there?

Well, everyone looking for seclusion, the best holiday resort perks, and perfect whether to sunbathe, beachstroll, or to just rest and recharge.

This could be overworked executives, newly weds on their honeymoons, or everyday folks just looking for a tropical hideout to vacation at.

But we must admit, the Maldives has become something of a magnet for people looking to celebrate their honeymoons.

The One&Only Reethi Rah resort is in fact perfect for couples yearning for some privacy to truly enjoy each other and seal their nuptials in style. Some of the villas have their own private beaches to sunbathe, with hardly a soul within your surrounds.

Besides couples, there are also villas and all manner of attractions for families and and friends vacationing as parties. The Beckhams are among a slew of celebrity families who have enjoyed the noted comforts of this resort. The resort is easily one of the best resorts in Maldives for families

How to Get To The Reethi Rah Resort

The resort is situated north of Male and can be accessed by boat. It takes roughly 40 minutes by speedboat to get to the resort.

But, as a guest of the hotel, you are transported in style aboard one of the resort’s five luxury dhonis. This transfer will take around 75 minutes.

But you will not mind that one bit, thanks to the super courteous crew and the many nice touches, like the sea sickness relieving acupressure bracelets. Waters along this stretch of the Indian ocean have been known to be quite choppy at times.

The dhoni is a traditional Maldivian sailboat built with meticulous craftsmanship. You will love a romantic voyage around the island aboard one of these beauties.

Many of the south Asian airlines, including Singapore Airlines, the Maldivian national carrier itself, and international airlines like Qantas and others operate flights to Male directly from Chennai, Singapore, and other South Asian cities.
Lavishly Appointed Accommodation Options
Board options at the Reethi Rah beach resort scale from the charming overwater bungalows lining the lush green covered island to deluxe grand beachfront villas that epitomize palatial luxury.

Imagine raising your head from your bed at sunrise and staring at clear blue waters stretching beyond the eye can see.

That’s the view from the water villas, one of the luxury accommodation options at the One&Only Reethi Rah resort. I sure can get used to that.

Perched over a white sand floored lagoon, these water villas are self contained, with daybeds, hammocks, a scattering of dining and lounging furniture across the wooden deck, and, of course, the richly decorated interiors.

There is also a water villa with pool option, which sounds over-the-top considering all you see around you are pristine shallow blue waters.

But if you like to take overwater luxury accommodation seriously high street, there is an option, of course.

The grand water villa with pool is exactly what it sounds like - an unashamedly luxurious aboard with its own private swimming pool.

Peering through the window to a tranquil ocean sunset, even the bathroom has a view.

And though the living and dining areas are decadently furnished, poolside alfresco dinners watching the sun as it escapes into the calm ocean in the distance is just as enticing.

Getting off the water (but obviously not very far away from it), the stakes are raised a notch higher with the beach villas with their own private pools.

The beachfront villas are embellished with outdoor dining areas complete with daybeds, supersized indoor tubs and outdoor showers, and an expanse of beach space.

If you are vacationing as a family, you can opt for the two villa residence with pool. Freestanding, the two villas can be easily connected to maximize space.

Even higher up the scale are the grand and duplex beach villas with own pools.

Sleek interiors, with regal high ceilings and carefully chosen furniture pieces, a couple of bedrooms, a spacious bathroom, and a personal butler all make for a pampered stay.

Outside are canopied daybeds, palm tree shaded hammocks and hanging chairs, and outside showers. Extras include your own buggy so you can easily get around, and (need we mention?) your own private beach.

However, the grandest of all the resort’s accommodation options has to be the Grand Sunset Residence.

Marked by astounding opulence, the residence has to be accessed via a private road, has three ensuite bedrooms, lavishly decorated dining, living, and lounging areas, as well as a private swimming pool, beach, chef, and even your own private access to the lagoon.

If you want absolute luxury and seclusion - a chunk of paradise where you are the only residents, this is where you will get it.

All villas and the grand sunset residence have free wifi, a concierge service, and plenty of other amenities.

Should You Be Tempted to Step Out of the Luxurious Comforts of Your Villa?

Well, there are plenty of reasons you should be out and about.

You have clubs with cooking lessons and lots of fun activities for children of all ages. Adults must also try the One&Only spa with massage that's there on the resort.

The spa has state of the art treatment and relaxation rooms for both women and men. There you will find swirling vitality pools, saunas, and steam rooms.

Anything that could be incorporated was included to produce an environment of absolute tranquility.

Actually, I don’t know what’s more therapeutic between the actual massage treatments and the surroundings themselves.

And if you would rather stretch those muscles on your own, there are yoga and pilates instructors also on hand.

Away from the spa there is an artist studio for the creative types, a championship grade tennis and FIFA certified football pitch for those of an athletic persuasion.

And if you require something more racy and daring, there is a climbing rock. The rock is, of course man-made, which makes it the more impressive.

Having come all the way you will be cross with yourself if you left without sampling the islands’ rich marine life. There are diving excursions guided by the resort’s resident marine biologist.

You are taken on a boat trip to visit the sand bank where you will also have a chance to see dolphins up close.

There are also seaplane excursions where you explore the islands by air, as well as dhoni boat and big game fishing trips.

Deep sea diving enthusiasts also have a chance to explore the area’s coral reefs and the concupia of marine species that call the ocean floor home. And, don’t worry, you don’t have to pack your diving gear as there is a dive shop right on the ressort.

Unforgettable Gastronomic Experiences

What’s an exotic holiday without an exotic food experience?

Clearly it wouldn’t be much of an exotic holiday. But even if the cuisine at the One&Only Reethi Rah does include some local favorites, the menus are fairly cosmopolitan.

There are enough options to satisfy every palette. It could be the Botanica, with its organic menu options, the fusion of Asian, Italian, and French dishes at the Reethi, the Mediterranean food experience at the new Rabarbaro restaurant, or the Middle Eastern dishes at the Fanditha.

But a lot of good things have been said about the Tapasake, a contemporary Japanese eatery that’s been wowing resort guests since it opened.

And if you happen to work up an appetite while out stretching or doing some reading at the beach, go no further than the Beach Club at Club One. There you will have the pick of all manner of refreshing fruit cocktails, fresh salads, and seafood dishes.

As the sun sets you can head down to any one of the resort’s three bars, where you can mingle and make friends with other guests while sipping on sundowners and cocktails.

You have a choice of the poolside Rah bar or the alternative of a leisurely drink overlooking the ocean at the Fanditha bar.

On the other hand, wine connoisseurs can head over to the Epicure wine bar where the cellar is stocked with some of the best wines from across the world.

How Much Will All This Cost You?

The Maldives and indeed the One&Only Reethi Rah Resort is not a budget holiday destination. Besides, I doubt anyone goes there expecting a cheap holiday.

This is a luxury holiday experience where you can expect exceptional hosting and service, as well great food, accommodation, and leisure experiences for the whole family.

As you will admit, all this costs money.

But at the end you get what you pay for, which is a holiday of a lifetime.

Many guests come back over and over. So you can be sure you are spending money on a holiday that, barring any bad weather or something the resort management can’t control, will be money well spent.

Whether it is a Maldives honeymoon or a family vacation, the One&Only Reethi Rah Beach Resort passes the test.

Indeed, it is one of, if not the, best all inclusive resorts in the Maldives. It gets a 4.8-star rating from us here.
